Besparelser

An organization, called Dansk Erhverv, organizing danish companies on a small scale, has a brilliant idea these days. We should pay to be allowed to visit the doctor. We would save 3 billion crowns on a yearly basis, approximately 500 million dollars, and it is quite simple except for the fact that it is illegal. The danish laws states that everyone must have free and equal access to health care. You can hardly call it that when some people don’t have those money to pay for a doctor visit. But a few informations seems to be lacking :

What would happen if you found a sick man on the street, without ID and without money. Should we put up a sign stating people could donate a bit of money, and when enough had donated, a doctor would see to his needs?

What should happen if someone makes an appointment, but says he doesn’t have any money? Should he be rejected?

What would happen when someone went through an examination, and then revealed he had no money? Would he be blacklisted for his next visit?

What if a man doesn’t pay his bill, and shortly after needs medical care again? Would that be denied until he paid his bills?

And most importantly : Would we pay less tax after implementing their idea? Paying for doctors isn’t unknown here, we do it through taxes. So how would they calculate how much of my tax money goes to the doctors, so I wouldn’t have to pay that? And how much would we then save, if the tax reductions should be substracted from the 3 billion crowns we would save?

That is a lot of questions one is forced to ask him or herself, when you have to take idiotic and egoistical suggestions seriously. Come on, let us not end up in a situation where people risk not being able to afford to visit a doctor. If Dansk Erhverv are so eager to save money, force them to find the 3 billion crown by implementing reductions in government support for companies instead.
